White glaze on white porcelain; of compressed apple shape with a waisted cylindrical neck, flat lip and protruding, concave, oval foot; moulded with a continuous design of nine Buddhist lions with five brocaded balls set against an undercut ground of formalized clouds set between a band of formalized lingzhi-heads above a band of raised dots and a shoulder band of formalized lingzhi-heads beneath a band of continuous leiwen (‘thunder pattern’), with a raised-dot border above, covered overall, except for the edge of the footrim and the lip, with white enamel or glaze, the foot inscribed in iron-red seal script 嘉慶年製Jiaqing nian zhi (Made during the Jiaqing period), the lip with gold enamel, the interior unglazed.
